A Doncaster man, Paul Hogg, who suffered injuries in an accident at work said today that he is delighted that his claim for compensation has now been settled out of Court.
At the time of the accident Paul was a steelworker at a company based in Balby. He suffered a crush injury to his right thumb and a burn to his thigh when a steel casting weighing over half a tonne fell onto him.
As a result of his injuries Paul had an operation to insert two wires into his hand and was unable to work for four weeks. He has been left with a scar on the tip of his right thumb which is tender to touch and he is no longer able to use his right thumb for detailed work.
Maria Houghton, solicitor at the law firm Atherton Godfrey, said: “Paul’s accident was caused by his employers cutting corners in relation to the health and safety aspects of the job. If they had taken the time to ensure safe systems of work were in place, Paul’s painful injuries could have been avoided.”
Atherton Godfrey recovered an out of Court settlement of £18,250 for Paul’s injuries.
