Atherton Godfrey was established in April 1979, by partners John Atherton and Charles Godfrey - hence the name. At that time, the business was operated by just a handful of staff working from a couple of rooms at 8 Hall Gate in Doncaster town centre, providing mainly matrimonial and dispute services.
Over the years, specialist lawyers were recruited, new departments created and the range of services extended.
Today, Atherton Godfrey is by far the largest Doncaster based law firm, with specialist staff covering most legal services required by individuals, families, organisations and businesses.
Whilst the firm has grown it has kept its character as a high street practice offering straight-forward legal advice to the people and businesses of Doncaster, South Yorkshire and the wider country.
The firm is recommended by leading industry giants, The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners and belongs to a wide range of specialist legal panels.
Both the firm and individual members of staff are recognised by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) as national experts in their field.
Atherton Godfrey has been awarded the Lexcel quality kite mark for the last eight consecutive years. This kite mark is only awarded to firms that are able to demonstrate the highest levels of practice management and customer care.
