Bike Day a big hit

Youngsters from across Doncaster came to the Big Bike Day event on Saturday 22 June at Bessacarr Primary School, to learn new cycling skills and to watch professional extreme cyclists perform some hair-raising stunts.
Also a big hit with the children was the ‘Smoothie Bike’ where they got to make their own smoothie in a rather novel way. They’d load up the blender with their favourite fruit, fit it to the special holder on the bike and then pedal until their smoothie was ready!
The ‘Draw a Dream Bike’ competition was judged by extreme cyclist and Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Joe Oakley. The children had come up with some wonderful pictures which made it very difficult to select a winner, but Joe eventually chose the picture by six-year-old Montanna, who had even included an obstacle course in her design.
Drivers from DHL came with one of their articulated vehicles and besides showing youngsters around the inside of the cab, they took the time to help them understand the dangers when cycling near vehicles, particularly the large lorries like theirs.
Staff at the school did a wonderful job of hosting the event which had been very well organised by Sustrans.
