Community award winners

We were very pleased to sponsor the Community Awards once again this year. The awards, organised by the Doncaster Free Press, are designed to recognise the achievements of local people, across a wide range of areas including: education, charity, supporting family, youth work, sport and personal achievements.

The awards ceremony took place at the Keepmoat Stadium at the end of May and our senior partner, Don Bird was invited along to present the awards to the categories sponsored by Atherton Godfrey, which were:

Hannah Brown Young Citizen Award
The award went to Robyn Wainwright in recognition of her outstanding community work. Robyn has been involved with Barnardo’s Young Carers for the past 6 years and acts as both secretary and chair. She is also secretary for Doncaster Youth Council and has recently taken on the role of deputy for the UK Youth Parliament.  “Robyn’s tireless and selfless commitment to making a difference to others is truly admirable” commented the Doncaster Free Press.

Anna Brown was runner up and received a special commendation for her work.

Athlete of the Year Award
This award went to Lewis Eccles who at the age of just 14 has some outstanding sporting achievements under his belt. He has already won two Golfing UK Junior Open Championships and this year saw him take both the full Men’s Golf Trust UK Disabled Open title and the British Disabled Open Championships. Lewis also won silver in the Special Olympics GB National Championships and gold in the Special Olympics Scottish Championships.

Don commented: “It was a real honour to be able to share the evening with such inspirational people and it was a great evening. Robyn and Lewis are an absolute credit to their families and their awards are very well deserved.  I think it right also to give a mention to the parents and families who give the most amazing support and encouragement.

On behalf of Atherton Godfrey, I would also like to offer a sincere well done to all the winners and runners up and thank the Free Press for organising the event.”
