Further accolade for legal expert

John McQuater, partner and head of litigation at Atherton Godfrey, has now officially received accreditation as a Clinical Negligence Specialist.
The accolade from the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) comes only months after John received accreditation for his work in the field of personal injury and also scooped a Lawyer of the Year award.
As an APIL Accredited Clinical Negligence Specialist, John will use his skills and knowledge to assess the competency of other lawyers working in this highly complex field both locally and nationally.
To qualify for accreditation, lawyers have to evidence that they have an excellent command of the law as it applies to the specialist area of clinical negligence and a good understanding of the health care sector.
The lawyer also needs a sound grasp of medical ethics and must be able to understand medical reports and know what should be contained within them.
John McQuater said: “I believe that a very important part of any lawyer’s role is to carefully guide clients through what is an exceptionally complicated area of law and to manage their expectations fully, while achieving the best possible outcome for them. I am very pleased that I will be able to help to embed this ethos within the wider legal profession.”
John has also received recommendation for his clinical negligence work in the Chambers Directory for the last two years running. Rankings in the Directory are based on testimonies from both clients and legal peers.
Atherton Godfrey’s clinical negligence team is one of the largest in the Yorkshire region.
