In-house costs lawyer on hand

Atherton Godfrey has recently become one of relatively few firms in the area to be able to draw on the skills of it’s own in-house costs expert.

Becky Whitfield, who joined Atherton Godfrey in 1999 as a clerical assistant, has qualified as a costs lawyer and now provides tailored and on-point advice to the firm on the full range of costs related matters.

Becky sampled several roles within the firm, including training to become an ILEX legal secretary and working in the litigation department handling new enquires, before joining the litigation costs team in December 2012.

Commenting after her qualification, Becky said: “As soon as I joined the costs team, I knew that this was the job I really wanted to do. I enrolled on the costs lawyer’s course in September 2014 and spent the next three years studying while working and raising my family – it was really hard work, but so worth it.”

Diane Parker, partner and head of personal injury, commented: “Becky tried her hand at several jobs before she found her niche in costs. She showed an obvious flair for the work from the beginning so we were very happy to support her through her studies. She has worked very hard and her qualification is very well deserved.”

Becky now deals with all aspects of costs related matters mainly within the areas of personal injury and clinical negligence and dental negligence.
