Lawyers give musical boost to little girls dream

The charity committee at Atherton Godfrey organised a live music gig which saw around 200 music lovers fill a local pub and help to raise more than £4,000.

The Seventy Band, entertained the crowd and opened the show with a brilliant performance of Ho Hey, a song they recorded especially for four-year-old Mae Fox, from Cantley. Mae and her family made a special guest appearance and the delightful little girl thanked everyone for coming and for helping to make her legs better.

Mae was born with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy which left her unable to walk. Earlier in the year, she went to America to have pioneering surgery, after her parent's Matt and Amy managed to raise over £80,000 to pay for the operation. Help is still needed to raise the money for the aftercare to complete the treatment.

Maria James, a lawyer with the firm and vice chair of the charity committee, said: "We fell in love with Mae, her family and her cause and wanted to do all we could to help this little girl achieve her dream of being able to walk."

Jodie Cook, a clinical negligence lawyer and chair of the firms' charity committee, added: "We are delighted with the success of the event and the amount of money we have raised for Mae's cause. In total we raised £4,500 and could not have done it without the support of The Seventy, who recorded a charity CD and played at our event for free, and of course without the Woolpack who allowed us the use of the pub without charge.  We would also like to express our sincere thanks to all the local businesses who generously donated raffle prizes to help boost the funds."

Mae's mum Amy, said: "This is a fantastic amount of money which in real terms can provide two intensive therapy courses and leg splints.

"We are very grateful to Atherton Godfrey for their support, and particularly to Jodie and Maria who put such a lot of work into organising the event. We'd also like to thank the guys from the Seventy for all their help, they have been absolutely fantastic and so generous with their time – they have definitely got some new fans!"
