Pedal power raises £3,000 for local charity

With one goal in mind, the AGSportive16 cyclists arrived at the firm’s office on Hall Gate at 7am on 17 September 2016 to cycle 48 miles from Doncaster to York. The original aim was to raise £1,000 for Aurora Wellbeing.

With a good weather forecast and an abundance of enthusiasm, the Atherton Godfrey team assisted by Chris from Bicycle Buddy set off in the direction of the North Bridge.

The cycle lanes out of Doncaster enabled the cyclists to largely avoid the traffic to link up with the Trans Pennine Trail.
A breakfast stop at Threeways Café, Braithwaite 13 miles in, allowed the cyclists to fuel up before the long section from Braithwaite to Temple Hirst. The section involved pleasant cycling along canal paths and tracks before a road section.

At over halfway through the ride, the cyclists were joined by the Aurora fundraising team to offer support and encouragement at “The Sloop” Inn, Temple Hirst. The pub kindly provided a nourishing selection of sandwiches (….and chips!).
Re-fuelled but slightly sore, the team pushed on for Selby.

Once more fuel stop along the way and the route took the team along an old railway track towards York Racecourse, along the cycle paths of Rowntree Park and to the end of the journey.

Having rested and had chance to add up the monies raised, the final total is nearly £3000!

Atherton Godfrey would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to all who have sponsored the team, offered kind words of encouragement and helped to make the event a success.

Here is to the next challenge!
