Doncaster businesses celebrate

We’re very excited to be attending the Doncaster Chamber Business Awards at Doncaster Racecourse tonight, as sponsors of the Large Business category.

We will be joining representatives from businesses across the borough to celebrate the achievements of the business sector in one of the most challenging times we’ve ever had to face.

Finalists for the Large Business award have demonstrated an all-round excellence in business with focus on financial performance, future objectives, competitive advantage, and a commitment to customer service.

Diane Parker, a partner and head of our personal injury department will present the Large Business winner with their award. Diane joined Atherton Godfrey as a trainee solicitor in 1989 and is a great example of how far our trainees can go with their career. Diane is the firm’s training principal where she makes sure that our trainee solicitors gain a wide range of skills and legal experience. Diane herself specialises in workplace accident claims, especially those involving serious head or brain injury.

Diane commented: “We have sponsored the business awards for several years. This year we chose to sponsor the Large Business category as these businesses are the backbone of our community and their success has an impact on everyone; be it through providing jobs, goods or services or through their corporate social responsibility activities.

“Some big names have located to Doncaster in recent years. It is clear that Doncaster has some ambitious plans and it will be exciting to see how the growing confidence in the town brings in even more investment as we compete against other towns and cities.

“We would like to wish good luck to all the finalists; they should all be very proud of reaching the final stages.”

This year’s finalists are:

Boxes and Packaging

Clarks Vehicle Conversions

Learning Curve Group

Polypipe Building Products

Prestigious business award for law firm

Atherton Godfrey is celebrating after winning one of the most coveted awards in the business sector.

Our firm, which has been based in the town centre for almost 40 years, was presented with the Excellence in People Development award at the Business Awards, organised by Doncaster Chamber.

Judges said they felt that training and development were ingrained in Atherton Godfrey’s everyday work, and were impressed by the inclusivity and breadth of training available and how it benefits the overall customer experience.

The Awards, now in their 20th year, aim to celebrate and recognise the local business community. They have become one of the most prestigious award ceremonies in the region and are now the biggest business awards in Yorkshire.

Diane Parker, the firm’s training principal commented: “We were thrilled to be presented with the award. As a business, we put a lot of emphasis on getting the right people in the right jobs and making sure they have access to all the training they need.

Our commitment to excellence doesn’t end with training though. We try to help bridge the gap between business and education by taking part in careers fairs around the region and working closely with local schools to deliver skills workshops and interview training. Taking part in these events and joining in our charity work presents excellent opportunities for our staff to develop personally as well as professionally.”

Diane added: “We are able to offer alternative routes, including apprenticeships.

In addition, there are a wide range of job roles on offer at the firm, including IT, administration, secretarial, maintenance, accounting and marketing. It’s very common for someone to join the firm in one role and then progress to qualify in something totally different.”

Don Bird, senior partner, commented: “This award is a tremendous way to end what has been a fantastic year for us in terms of recognition. We were finalists in the Training and Recruitment awards and the Yorkshire Legal Awards earlier in the year. We have been recognised by both The Legal 500 and Chambers UK directories for the 8th consecutive year and, more recently, been included in The Times Best 200 Law Firms. But to receive this award in our home town is something quite special.”

Runners up were local insurance providers, ProAktive. Other finalists were 8point8 Training Ltd, Cast, Direct Group Limited and Navartis.
