Solicitors in bid to increase free legal services

Solicitors from a Doncaster law firm will be braving the weather later today in an effort to raise funds to help provide free legal services.

Solicitors from Atherton Godfrey will join others from across the region as they take part in the after work Sheffield Legal Walk.

The 10km sponsored walk around Sheffield is organised by The Yorkshire Legal Support Trust (YLST), the local arm of The Access to Justice Foundation, which raises and distributes funds to provide free legal advice services.

Diane Parker, partner at Atherton Godfrey and honorary secretary of the Doncaster District Law Society, commented: “Everyone should be able to access legal advice when they need it. Unfortunately, government funding is constantly being cut.

These legal walks are just one of the ways that the legal profession joins together to help fund access to justice for the poorest, most vulnerable and disadvantaged local people.”

The funds raised help people who find themselves facing problems such as homelessness, debt, employment, family issues, mental health problems, discrimination and injustice.
